How to use HomesWallet
Updated: 2026-10-27 · HomesWallet
Setting up takes about ten minutes and can be paused at any time — you continue from the same step on any device. Here is what each step does and why.
1. Sign-in and keys
You sign in with a code sent by e-mail, then create the household's keys on your device. Add a passkey (face or fingerprint) and write down the 12 recovery words — the app checks them before you continue.
- Keep the 12 words on paper, not in a photo on your phone.
- Without the keys nobody can restore the data — not even us.
2. Household and people
Name the household, choose the city and language. Invite the other adults — each signs in with their own account — and add the children as profiles without a sign-in.
3. Bills by e-mail
Copy the bills address from Settings and give it to your providers, or add a forwarding rule in your mailbox. New bills appear in "Inbox".
4. Your first receipt
Tap "Scan" and photograph a receipt. The QR code gives the date and total; with AI turned on, the items are added too, each in its own category. Check and confirm.
5. A bank statement
Upload a statement in CSV, PDF or camt. Spending is added, incoming payments are skipped, and payments that already have a receipt are not counted twice.
6. Categories, groups and kinds
Review the categories and add your own if you need them. Groups — for example "Bathroom renovation" — collect spending from different categories with their own budget.
7. A goal and notifications
Set a goal in the "Dream fund" and choose which notifications you get and when — with quiet hours and at most three push notifications a day.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to finish every step at once?
No. Every step is saved, and "I don't have one" also completes it. Until setup is finished, only the suggestions that need the missing data are paused.
Do I need an app from the store?
No. HomesWallet runs in the browser and can be added to your phone's home screen as an app.
Can I use HomesWallet without AI?
Yes. Without AI the app reads receipts' QR codes, recognises known bills and calculates everything on your device.
